The Most Frightening Statistic

Setting aside natural disasters, it seems the number of public appearances a president makes is in indirect proportion to the health of the economy and the vitality of his agenda. Rarely a day goes by when the mainstream media doesn’t feature fresh Obama sound bites.

Whether he is trying to convince himself, or the voters, that he is pleased with the progress is anyone’s guess. The economic indicators are wobbling, and few are persuaded that his recent international jaunt bolstered the US’ relationship with its allies, or improved national security.

The banks and insurance companies are scrambling to put distance between themselves and the TARP funds. In fact, there is a growing consensus that the entire program should be mothballed by year’s end. It makes one wonder what private data and forecasts the leaders of the US financial institutions and congress see that is causing this stampede.

Turning over the future of General Motors and Chrysler to the unions and Barney Frank isn’t playing well. It doesn’t take a marketing genius or an economic guru to understand the $50 billion spent on “saving” these companies will only benefit the coffin nail manufacturers and the UAW. He gave them the hammer.

Obama’s latest political gambit, guaranteeing that 600,000 jobs will be created or saved, is resonating like a bell in a sound-proofed closet. Whoever created this non-testable goal was caught in the glare of oncoming lights, manufacturing airbags for an expected head-on crash.

The federal government’s revenues are down 34%, which makes Obama’s deficit spending stand out like a grizzly bear in a petting zoo. While rapidly increasing energy prices sap the meager discretionary income from family budgets, Obama is begging America to wait twenty years for windmills and sunshine to correct this environment-worthy inconvenience.

He is also clamoring for bone crushing taxes and has claimed the right to determine the appropriate income for people employed in the private sector. And to add insult to injury he proclaimed in Cairo that the United States is as much Islamic as it is Judeo-Christian.

He must have received this statistic from the same folks who invented the 150,000 jobs he claims his stimulus plan has already saved; the same experts who provided the projection that unemployment would not exceed 8%. Be assured these are the same advisers that told him to throw Israel under the bus, bless Iran’s nuclear ambitions and grant terrorists captured on the battlefields Miranda Rights.

To his credit, Obama admitted that Medicaid spending is out of control. Of course, he forgot to add that the program guarantees medical care for anyone, and everyone, without insurance or proof of US citizenship, or any incentive to earn either.

His solution for this medical black hole is the nationalization of healthcare. So all he needs is another trillion dollars of debt to solve the problem. Is there a trend here?

Preparing to be the President of the World must eat a lot of time. Maybe it just slipped his mind to sign the executive order extending E-Verify. When the country’s economy is gushing red ink and unemployment is approaching ten percent, what other logical reason exists for providing the 100 million citizens of Mexico an incentive to become illegal aliens?

The polls keep showing Obama’s approval rating is hovering around 60%. This is the most frightening statistic of all.
